Towards Pest Free Waitaha
Towards Pest Free Waitaha is a collaborative partnership that supports community-based initiatives to suppress and eventually eliminate pest animals leading to a pest free Waitaha/Canterbury. We are focused on:

Improving ecological health

Enhancing indigenous biodiversity

Restoring the mana and mauri of the whenua.
We’re working on a big bold vision and plan, but that’s currently very much work-in-progress. In the meantime, our key priority is to champion community trapping groups, help connect them, and share the tools and knowledge that can super charge their efforts and build the trapping community.
If you’re starting a new trapping group, or trying to grow your existing one, then this resource is for you. We have have a page specifically to help you start your journey, with our top 10 tips for starting a new community trapping group. And if you have a question that you can’t find the answer to here, or in the links, then drop us a line!
Resources for Community Trapping Groups
Our focus is on helping community trapping groups achieve better outcomes. Whether your group is starting out, or in need of some inspiration, there’s a good chance our trapping community can help.
Training
We’ll be running 6 (bi-monthly) workshops up until June 2026 focused on helping community groups upskill in areas in which they feel they have need.
Project Visits
One of the best ways to learn is seeing what others are doing! On alternating months we’ll be visiting a project, learning what is unique about their approach, with lots of opportunity to see their work in action and ask questions. And it’s great networking!
Trapline Heath Checks
Nothing improves our chances of trapping animals more than a well maintained and set trap. We can provide our check lists, or have one of our experts visit and walk through your project.
Online Resources
There are tons of trapping resources online, but know what is relevant for your group can be a challenge.
