About Us

Why Towards Pest Free Waitaha?

Currently Pest Free Banks Peninsula are working towards eliminating pests over 10,000ha on Banks Peninsula. Once proven, and it’s going well, funding permitting that will be expanded to the entire 110,000 ha of the Peninsula.

In the meantime, community groups across Christchurch City, Selwyn and Waimakariri Districts are working to help suppress pests and protect native species, literally in their neighborhoods.

Towards Pest Free Waitaha is about fostering and encouraging that passion and those great initiatives across our region. Our goal is that eventually we are pest free from the alps to the ocean and between our two rivers, with a substantial buffer each side. It’s achievable!

How do we get there?

Well, that is still work in progress. Funding is crucial, and to achieve that we need a clear plan and alignment with all our partners.

Our working group are … working through that with a goal of developing the plan, so when the time is right we are “shovel ready” and funding permitting, we can kick into gear! The beauty of course is that Pest Free Banks Peninsula has thousands of hours of experience in landscape scale pest eradication. We can scale this to make a difference across our entire region.
